UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND
School of Medicine

Postdoctoral Fellows

We are seeking highly qualified POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWS to study ion channel physiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore.

We investigate molecular mechanisms in voltage-activated potassium channels and the functional role these channels in the heart and nervous system. We have a particular focus on basic mechanisms in the Kv11 (or ‘ERG’) family of potassium channels and the pathophysiological mechanisms of disease-causing mutations in human ERG channels.

The techniques the successful the postdoctoral fellow would be expected to master include whole-cell patch-clamp electrophysiology, confocal microscopy and fluorescence imaging, Forster resonance energy transfer (FRET) spectroscopy, protein purification, protein interaction assays, molecular biology and cell culture. We are working on a variety of cell preparations including mammalian heterologous cells and native cardiac myocytes.

Priority will be given to candidates with a recent Ph.D. in Physiology or a related field. To apply for a position please submit a cover letter, CV and the names of 3 references to:
